We're on a mission to play games, take pies to the face, and maybe eat some bugs to help change kids' health. This is our 10th year as a team working together to help raise money for the Children's Hospital of Orange County.

Obsidian’s History with Extra Life

Since 2015, Obsidian Entertainment has worked with our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Through the power of gaming, they raise funds throughout the year, culminating with a weekend long live stream where they play games and continue to raise funds in a final push to reach the goal set.

Obsidian has been able to raise more money every year, with over $30k being raised in 2023 and have a lifetime fundraising total of nearly $150k. With our commitment to making this event bigger and better every year, we plan on doing what we can to blow our previous efforts out of the water. Join us and help us raise money for the chids!

Wait, "chids?"

Yes, chids. In the early years, towards the end of a stream, after almost 48 hours of playing video games and staying awake to raise funds, a very tired Mikey Dowling, now Director of Communications and Creative Services at Obsidian, was in the middle of a heartfelt speech. In this speech, while explaining what Extra Life is and how the funds are used for CHOC, he fumbled through the word “children” and “kids” and ended up creating the battle cry we use to this day for this event, “for the chids!”
